The Nightbane RPG by Palladium Books oozes cool and weirdness. This piece shows an example. The above critter is known as a Namtar. They are a race of beetle-like things from another dimension. They can be found scurrying about the palaces of the Nightlords or walking around amongst the Earth's popualtion inside one of their constructs, the hollow men.

Bugs riding around shells that look human. Is that weird and cool or what?
